About the Breed

English Cocker Spaniels originated in England, and were originally bred for hunting. Today, they are still a popular hunting breed, known for their energy, stamina, intelligence, and trainability. Their good-natured, loyal personalities combined with their big, silky ears, soulful eyes, and perpetually-wagging tails have made them a popular family companion as well. They can be quite stubborn and strong-willed, but love unconditionally and are deeply loyal. They are extremely intelligent and easily trained, but need consistent and early training in order to establish a solid foundation and necessary boundaries. Because they are a working breed, they tend to be higher-energy and need regular exercise in order to be happy and healthy. We encourage all prospective puppy families to carefully consider this fact, and make sure that they have plenty of space for their pup to run in, and enough time in their schedules to accommodate the necessary training and work that any puppy requires. At the end of the day, Cockers are--above all--some of the most loving, compassionate, and endearing dogs you will ever meet. They thrive on attention and do well with children and other animals.
